Hand carved wood. There are some blemishes throughout due to age. One noticeable chip on the back of the cherubs cloak.

The cherub is licking honey from the hive he is holding. The original statue was created by artist, Joseph Anton Feuchtmayer. It sat on the altar of St. Bernard, also known as St. Bernard of Clairvaux. It was given to him by his contemparies since he was known for his gift of preaching and was therefore called "Doctor mellifluus" (honey-flowing teacher). They called him this because words flowed from his mouth like honey.
