This is not a painting, but rather a print on canvas. The frame is original to the picture and is vintage. When I discovered it, there were worn spots in the frame and it looked like the frame had been painted black over the original wood. Spots have been touched up but there is still a spot on the frame that looks like it splintered off.
The canvas has no tears.
This is an image of Captain Lazarus Ruggles of New Milford, Connecticut. An original oil was painted in 1785 by Richard and William Jennys. William Jennys was the son in law to Captain Ruggles and had emigrated from England in company with Richard Jennys.
